As some of you might have already heard, Gaming vs Cancer has been delayed due to COVID-19.
Full statement from Gaming vs Cancer:
“Within the last hour we’ve received confirmation that Southampton University has taken the decision to cancel all meetings and conferences between the 13th of March and the 20th of April.
This is in accordance with the Governments advice to reduce the opportunities for COVID-19 infection to take place amongst large gatherings.
Therefore it is with great regret that we are forced to postpone the SPRING Gaming Vs Cancer event.
Full refunds (including fees) will be provided to all attendees.
This does not mean we are cancelling our intention to run a SPRING 2020 event. We intend to reschedule the event to run as soon as current circumstance allow.
Clearly we are massively disappointed not to be able to provide the event for you on the days originally planned – but under the circumstances we are in completely agreement with the University’s decision as the last thing we wish to do is endanger the health of our attendees and their families.
We will keep you informed as to our next move and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
And from me:
“I want to make this very clear though: This is a delay, not a cancellation.
Everyone at GvsC was really happy and excited about the TFTCG tournament. We’ve clearly shown there is an active interest in the game and we could have probably sold more than the 32 tickets had we the prize support to do so. There was genuine talk of a second event.
So whilst it REALLY sucks this has happened… this event WILL happen, just not in the midst of a pandemic. And when it does, I think it’ll be better.”
I had some articles planned from guest writers leading up to and after the convention; if they want to rejig their articles that’s their perogative, but in the meantime I’m going to run some pretty light things over the next two weeks.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this event – both those who were going to attend, and those who supported it otherwise. It’ll be back soon hopefully.
Be safe out there!
Until next time.
